Other than I like to write, my real motive for writing has always escaped me, until recently that is. You see, my first book, The Real Classroom, was a collection of classroom stories from my teaching days and from other teachers, parents, and former students. I only put that book together because we would all joke about things that happened in our rooms, comments made by students, etc. and we often shared how we could write a book.. My What Makes Me...series is "written" by elementary kids sharing how they got to be the way they are. I felt that I had spent enough time with my students to understand their different personalities and experiences. Defining America is really a conversation starter with questions meant to help Americans decide what our country is all about. I was finishing up Defining America when I had an epiphany. I realized that I write to help myself and others understand the perspectives, opinions, and experiences of others. I'm not sure if that will have any affect on my writing, but at least I know why I write.
