It's Time...To Leave The IRS Alone

I usually begin with a story. Not this time. See, I've never had any contact with the IRS so I don't have a pertinent story. At least not now, although I'm sure I'll be audited after I write this.
Now that we're in tax season, the IRS is in the news more, not to mention all of those commercials promising to help citizens whom have been targeted for not paying their taxes. In my book, Defining America, there is a chapter entitled "punching bags". It's a list of easy targets that seem to be on the receiving end of more than their fair share of criticism. You guessed it. The IRS is on that list.
The question then becomes, why? The job of the IRS, to the best of my knowledge, is to collect taxes according to laws passed by Congress. The IRS doesn't make up these laws, it isn't responsible for your income, your debts, or anything to do with your current financial situation. It's simply an agency that collects taxes owed to the government. It's not the enemy and, regardless of tv commercials, you don't "owe" the IRS any money. Now, I sympathize with those who struggle to pay bills, including their taxes. Just don't blame the IRS.
