It's Time... To Admit Ignorance

Let me begin with a story. Yesterday, a woman came by to give us an estimate on a new furnace. She was extremely knowlegeable about furnaces, heating systems in general, etc. I, on the other hand, don't even know how to shut off the power in the house, not to mention how to change the filter, or what pipes are for what. In other words, I'm pretty ignorant about such things as home maintenace, not to mention car engines, gardening, hockey, any form of technology, etc. I accept that.
In America today, political divisions seem greater than at any time in our country, at least in my memory. Strong opinions abound and we are faced with countless sources of information that critique issues we face every day. What or who are we to believe? I have no idea. I do know this, however. Rather than assuming I have all of the answers, I admit to being ignorant regarding many current topics. I try to be objective and to look for proof when I can find it. Our country would be much better off if each of us admitted to not being knowledgeable about every topic and sought out proof, rather than believe something or someone just because it fits our personal narrative.
