For as long as I can remember, I've had this thing about meeting certain celebrities, usually actors from television shows or movies I like. I did meet Hank Aaron once, my favorite baseball player ever, and I got autographs at the US Open tennis championships when I was around 20 (I'm sure Evonne Goolagong still has nightmares from when I chased her down a sidewalk). However, when it comes to actors I admire, I haven't met anyone. Not to throw my wife inder the bus, but all I wanted for my birthday one year was for her to arrange a visit with a favorite actor of mine, like someone from MASH, for example. It didn't happen. She did have everyone attending my party wear a name tag of a person who I'd have enjoyed meeting, but it wasn't quite the same.
Anyway, that brings me to my "big three". Growing up, I've admired from afar three actors who starred in television shows. Two of them, Mary Tyler Moore and Andy Griffith are no longer with us. The last of the three is Dick Van Dyke, who I believe is ninety-eight or so. I think about them often, whenever I watch a rerun of one of their shows, and I just saw a special on TV with many famous people performing and offering glowing remarks about Dick VanDyke. I'm not sure what I'd have to do to meet him so if you have any "ins" with him or ideas, please let me know. Time might be of the essense!
Jim
