It's Time...To Vote
With the mid-term elections fast approaching it's time for every eligible citizen to exercise their right to vote. In my book, Defining America, I devoted an entire chapter to voting. Topics in this chapter ranged from voting methods to reasons to vote to reporting results, among many others. Because of the current political climate in America, I feel it's more important than ever to cast your ballot. Personally, I will be voting soon since early voting in New York State is already open.
My biggest concern with these mid-term elections isn't what you might expect and that is in the results. It's actually the trust Americans are likely to have when the results are announced. As a former teacher, I want to believe that established rules and laws regarding voting in America will be followed and the results accepted by everyone. Certainly, I have strong feelings as to what I hope the results will be, but I'm actually more concerned that, regardless of the results, claims of voter fraud and how ballots are counted and reported won't be accepted. I do believe that it's up to our leaders to restore confidence in our system of voting.
